Enrollment Night is designed for parents and begins with a full presentation of the program in the gym. Following the formal presentation, classroom tours will be conducted and registration forms accepted. Open spots are filled through a lottery system the morning following Enrollment Night and families are notified by letter that week as to the placement of their child.
For Families new to Pilgrim Community Nursery School:
Applications are accepted at the annual Enrollment Night held in January.
For two weeks following the Enrollment Night, parents can tour the school while classes are in session. Applications can be submitted at this time, as well.
When there are more applications received than openings available, a lottery system will be used to determine who is placed and the order of placement on the wait list.
The application process will continue until all placements are filled.
A non-refundable registration fee is required at the time of enrollment.
To be eligible for enrollment, children must be at least two years old by September 1st of the school year in which placement is sought.
Priority status for enrollment is given to children in families who:
- Are Pilgrim Congregational Church members, or
- Are currently enrolled at Pilgrim Community Nursery School, or
- Have had a sibling who attended Pilgrim Community Nursery School.
Registration for Priority Status Students begins in December and is honored until the January Enrollment Night.
The school year is from September to the end of May. Occasionally a new child will be enrolled in the program during the year. This enrollment depends on available space and the age of the child.
Tuition is due monthly.
Because of the ongoing commitment to keep tuition affordable, the Pilgrim Community Nursery School's budget is supplemented by fundraising events. The School's two primary fundraisers are the Farmer's Market Donut Days and the Cookie Walk. The success of these two fundraisers is dependent on the participation of parent volunteers. Therefore, Pilgrim Community Nursery School Families are required to participate in them as follows:
- Work on all Donut Days or do a "buyout." Usually, there are three Donut Days per school year. The "buyout" amount is $90.00 for the first child; the "buyout" amount for each additional child is $45.00 (i.e., two children require a $135.00 "buyout"; three children, $180.00, etc.). The appropriate fee will be applied to a family's account if they fail to fulfill their commitment to work a Donut Day. There will be a $45.00 fee assigned for individual Donut Days not worked.
- Bake cookies for the annual Cookie Walk in December or do a "buyout." For the first child parents are responsible to bake 8-dozen cookies; for each additional child, parents are responsible to bake an additional 4-dozen cookies (i.e., two children require 12-dozen cookies; three children, 16-dozen cookies; etc.). Many parent volunteers are also needed to staff the fun event. The "buyout" amount is $90.00 for the first child; the "buyout" amount for each additional child is $45.00.
Necessary forms are mailed to enrolled families in August and must be completed by the time school begins.
Special Needs Info
Pilgrim Community Nursery School enrolls children with special needs if, after discussion among the director, teachers and parents of the child with special needs, it is determined that our environment and curriculum are appropriate. Special needs may include, but are not limited to, allergies (peanut free environment), developmental delays, physical challenges, abuse experiences, behavior disorders and medical illness.
First-year students will be placed in a classroom with similar-age classmates. Attention is given to gender balance in each classroom.
Second and third-year students will be placed by the director after consultation with current classroom teachers. Age, gender and socialization may be factors in classroom placement. We encourage parents to speak with the teachers and director about this important transition. Parents will be notified by letter in mid-May with their child's classroom assignment.
Ultimately, the director is responsible for all classroom placements.
